Ken Perez Appointed President of John Stott Ministries

Ken Perez — President of John Stott MinistriesMenlo Park, Calif. – Dec. 19, 2007 – John Stott Ministries (JSM) announced today that Ken Perez, JSM board chair since 2003, has accepted the position of president, effective immediately.

“Ken’s leadership gives me great excitement for the future of JSM,” said Tim Stafford, acting JSM board chair. “It’s rare to find such passion for ministry connected to such organizational capability. Ken has spent years involved intimately with JSM, and frankly, no one understands and loves our work more. He ‘gets’ the mind of John Stott and his intentions in launching this ministry, and he has a vision for broadening and deepening its influence. Put this together with Ken’s strong business background, and you have the ideal president for this time in JSM’s history.”

Perez was board chair for the Foundation for Advanced Christian Training (FACT) when it merged with JSM in 2001. He served as vice chair of JSM’s board of directors from 2001-2003 and as chair from 2004-2007. In the early 1980s, he served as library supervisor for the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity (LICC), one of John Stott’s key initiatives to bring thoughtful, biblical Christianity to contemporary issues. Perez serves on the boards of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA (IVCF), Jesus Institute (an organization with Web sites designed to help people of all spiritual and cultural backgrounds learn about the person of Jesus), and the Lincoln Heights Tutorial Program (an educational ministry in Los Angeles). He holds a B.A. degree in international relations from Stanford University and a M.B.A. degree with concentrations in finance and accounting from UCLA Anderson. Perez and his wife Janet have three children, reside in Menlo Park, Calif., and attend Menlo Park Presbyterian Church.

“I feel deeply honored to be called to lead this international ministry,” said Perez, regarding his new appointment. “Moving from JSM board chair to now serve as the organization’s president was a natural move, and I look forward to seeing JSM’s impact magnified as we support the growth of the Church in the Majority World by developing strategic Christian leaders.”

As board member for seven years, Perez has been instrumental in fostering the growth of JSM and its crucial role as the U.S. chapter of the Langham Partnership International (LPI), an organization founded by John Stott to help equip Majority World pastors and scholars for sound biblical preaching and teaching in their countries.

“Ken brings to his new role a wonderful combination of secular experience and Christian ministry involvement, along with profound familiarity with the vision and mission of John Stott Ministries,” said Chris Wright, international director of LPI. “I anticipate with excitement the contribution he will make to enabling us to serve our Majority World partners even more effectively, and look forward eagerly to working with him as a colleague and friend in our international leadership team in the Langham Partnership International.”

David Jones served as JSM’s president for all of the organization’s ten-year history. He stepped down to pursue a position as managing director for the Lausanne Committee for 2010.
